PRODUCT REVIEW: COOLWALLET S

By Crypto Monk

Whether you are a crypto user or a crypto “hodler”, the safest way to store your coins is using hardware wallets. With these hardware devices, you will be able to keep your private keys safe inside them.

Plenty of manufacturers have released their own vision of what a hardware wallet should be and today i am reviewing theCoolWallet S.

First of all, the main difference with other devices is its size. They chose to make a credit card format wallet so you can keep it on you at any time.

First impressions

The packaging is compact and looks pretty good. It is made of black cardboard with leather texture covering the main box.

The box includes:

  • wallet (credit card format)

  • recovery card (for your seed)

  • usb charging station

  • usb power cord

  • sticker

How does it work?

The first thing you have to do once you get your CoolWallet S is to set it up. You can follow the steps on this linkThe way it works is very simple. You need to use the CoolBitX app that is going to be paired to your wallet through an encrypted bluetooth connection.

It supports the most known coins : Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, Bitcoin Cash and all ERC20 tokens. The app is compatible with IOS and Android.

Receiving Funds

The first step before you can spend crypto, is loading your wallet with some coins. I tried to do it with a few bucks of Ethereum. It’s very basic and you don’t really need the card to do it since the only thing you have to do is to use your public key.

  1. Select “receive” on the lower banner of the app. You will have access to your public key and will be able to share a QR code

  2. Once you receive the funds, you can check your balance on the app and the card.

Receiving Funds

  1. The first step to send crypto to any wallet is to select “send” on the lower banner of the app. You will be able to write it down manually or scan the QR code of the recipient. Enter the amount you want to send. You can also choose the transaction fees amount but be aware that setting them too low might significantly extend the delay of transaction.

  2. Once everything is set up, you just have to confirm the transaction and you will be asked to press the button on the card.

  3. Your transaction was sent and all you have to do now is wait. Then you can check the transaction history on the app.

  4. Put back your CoolWallet S inside your “physical” wallet. And that’s it!

Conclusions

The CoolWallet s is cooler than a “USB stick style” hardware wallet. You can bring it with you everywhere and spend crypto wherever you want. The price is $99 for one piece but you can get 2 wallets (with only one power dock and one power cord) for $159. So it is kinda the same price as a ledger nano s (since they offer the shipping cost). Overall this is a good product so if you don’t own any hardware wallet yet, this one could be a great option.
